Banksy confirms new Valentine's Day artwork in Barton Hill is his on Instagram

An artwork which appeared in Barton Hill yesterday (February 13) has been confirmed to be an official work of illusive graffiti artist Banksy.

Banksy left it until midnight - the start of Valentine's Day - to announce it was his work on his official Instagram account and website.

The artwork shows a young child using a slingshot to create what appears to be a firework formed of rose leaves, playing with the themes of violence and innoncence.

This piece joins Banksy's other array of famous graffiti pieces throughout Bristol, including The Mild Mild West, Gorilla in a Pink Mask and Well Hung Lover.

Barton Hill residents reacted to the latest piece yesterday, calling it beautiful.

One person said: "I think it's lovely, it's got ivory and roses so you've got a mixture for Valentines Day.

"Quite often it's a political statement with him - the catapult is a violent thing but it's actually shooting something that's beautiful.

The work is expected to bring increased visitors and tourists to the Barton Hill area of Bristol, as people from around the world continue to visit the city where Banksy is from and where so many of his graffiti pieces are on display.

Banksy posted an image of the work without a caption and so is yet to confirm the name of the new Valentine's Day art piece.
