Banksy claims prison wall 'Oscar Wilde' artwork in Bob Ross video

Renowned street artist Banksy has claimed an artwork that appeared overnight on the wall of a former prison in reading.

Banksy has named the piece 'The Create Escape.'

In a video featuring TV artist Bob Ross, the Bristol-based artist - whose identity is a closely guarded secret - shows how he created the painting, reports Bristol Live.

It shows a man making his escape from the prison using a rope made of knotted sheets. The prisoner is escaping with a type-writer, which has led to speculation it depicts Oscar Wilde - who was jailed for being gay and incarcerated at Reading Prison between 1895 and 1897.

The video, shared on Banksy's Instagram account, begins with 1970s American TV painter Bob Ross - then cuts to the Banksy himself, seemingly following Bob Ross's instructions and to daub The Create Escape on the wall at Reading Prison.

Reading residents had pleaded with the artist to claim responsibility, reported BerkshireLive.

"Please put us out of our misery here in Reading! Did you paint the escaping prisoner on Reading Prison?," commented one reader.

However, local police had already credited Banksy with the artwork, and described him as a 'Ninja'.

In a tweet, an officer from the Thames Valley Policing Team said: "Banksy has visited the old Reading Prison like a ninja and left this piece of art.

"I'm glad I know it's closed down otherwise I might of had to double take!"
