Banksy Brexit mural in Dover has disappeared and people are outraged

Residents have been left disappointed by the disappearance of an iconic Banksy mural.

The famous street art was painted on the side of Dover's old Castle Amusements building in Townwall Street in 2017.

It showed a man chipping away at the EU flag, poking fun at the country's decision to leave the EU .

However, the mural has seemingly vanished after a scaffolding was erected over the weekend, reports Kent Live .

One resident said: "I don't think it's good for Dover that we've lost the Banksy. It's a terrible shame that they've just covered it over.

"From a tourist point of view, we have a lot of cruise ships that come through here, and one of the things that we always say to them is, if you like, just pop around the corner and you could see the Banksy.

"It's really good that so many people actually know who he is, particularly if they're visiting Dover for the first time.

"It was definitely a big added tourist amenity."

Charlene Choo, a 24 year old student who goes to university in London, came to Dover with her friends for the bank holiday weekend.

Ms Choo said: "We arrived yesterday and were hoping to see the Banksy. We're a little bit disappointed."

She added: "It's okay, it's just we don't understand the reason for the painting disappearing."
