Bankers demand final bids for Tribune group

The auction for the US media conglomerate, Tribune Company, is expected to heat up as the deadline approaches for a new round of bids. Tribune's bankers have asked for final offers by mid-January for the company that includes 11 newspapers - including the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune - 24 television stations and the Chicago Cubs baseball team. The auction is being closely watched on Wall Street and the media industry as a barometer of newspapers' current value. (Via FT.com)
