Bank robber, 18, posted on social media after killing two in stick-up, police say

  • An 18-year-old, Brailen Weaver, has been arrested and charged with armed bank robbery and firearms offenses causing death after allegedly killing two people during a bank robbery in Berea, Kentucky.
  • Weaver entered a U.S. Bank branch on Thursday just before 2 p.m., immediately shooting and killing a male victim, then fatally shooting a teller before fleeing the scene, police say.
  • Authorities identified Weaver by matching surveillance video of a silver BMW and the suspect's clothing to photos and a car for sale on his social media pages, which he continued to update after the robbery.
  • The FBI located Weaver's car on I-75, leading to a high-speed pursuit exceeding 100 mph, which ended when he crashed the vehicle in Lexington and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended.
  • The incident, which led to school lockdowns in the area, is considered rare as federal prosecutors noted they could not recall a death related to a bank robbery in 18 years, and national bank robbery deaths have been uncommon recently.
