Bank of Scotland promise to support customers after branch shuts in West Lothian town

The Bank of Scotland promise they will still support customers after closing a West Lothian branch.

They blamed changing habits on the closure in Livingston and said internet and mobile banking are becoming increasingly prevalent.

Customers are advised that an alternative branch is nearby after the Almondvale branch shut in March.

The Bank of Scotland looked at data in deciding on the closure and said 85 per cent of personal customers using the Livingston branch have also used other Bank of Scotland branches.

And 76 per cent who used the Livingston branch have also used other Bank of Scotland branches, Internet Banking or Telephone Banking.

Whilst 23 per cent of personal customers from the Livingston branch have also used the Post Office.

A spokesperson said: “Our customers’ needs are changing. Over 17 million people now bank with us through Internet Banking and over 12 million use Mobile Banking.

“Branches will remain vital in meeting customers’ needs but we must continually review our network to make sure we have branches in locations where customers need and use them the most.

“As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to close this branch because of the changing ways customers choose to bank with us, most are already using an alternative way to bank and we have another branch close by.

“You can continue to use any other Bank of Scotland branch and the nearest alternative is the Livingston Almondvale Centre branch.

“You can also use your local Post Office for many everyday banking transactions.

“We’ll still be here to support you, and there are other ways you can continue to do your banking.”
