Bank of Ireland customers left without wages and social welfare payments after 'delay'

Some Bank of Ireland customers have been left without wages and social welfare payments after a "delay" in processing payments.

The bank said there was an issue with their system which left a number of people stranded without funds.

They are currently working to resolve the problem and added that payments should land in accounts later this morning.

A number of payments from BOI accounts have also been delayed as a result of the issue.

A Bank of Ireland spokesman said on Twitter: "We are aware that some customers have reported a delay in receiving a payment.

"We are working to rectify this issue as soon as possible, and we apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you."

While the Department of Employment Affairs & Social Protection confirmed they were aware of the problem, and that some social welfare recipients had been affected.

A spokesman said: "We've received reports that there is a delay with the Bank of Ireland payment processing system this morning.

"Some Social Welfare payments are affected.

"Bank of Ireland are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible this morning. We are sorry for the inconvenience involved."
