Bank notes left strewn in the street after 'cash machine explosion robbery' in Oldham

Bank notes were left strewn in the street after an apparent cash machine explosion robbery in Oldham.

Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended the Co op on King Street in Delph following the incident, which happened at around 11pm last night.

A witness who saw the events unfold says he heard a loud bang, before seeing people loading bank notes into a car.

He says they left the scene before emergency services arrived.

The anonymous eyewitness said: "I saw them going in, one guy outside on look out. There was a loud bang where they have blown up the cash machine and then they were throwing money into the car.

"It was on the high street so a lot watched from windows and called the police.

"They'd been gone a good 10 minutes before the fire engines arrived and probably 15 before the police.

"The police were called as it was in progress by numerous people and there was cash on the floor as they drove off"

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
