Bank injects tens of thousands of pounds to revamp Ayrshire branch

Major investment is being made to spruce up the Bank of Scotland in Ayr.

The bank is spending tens of thousands of pounds on a revamp.

The company recently pulled out of Prestwick but by the summer it will be the only one operating in Troon.

The building at 123 High Street is the South Ayrshire HQ of the bank. It is 117 years old, is B-listed and spread over three floors.

A bank spokeswoman said: “We have submitted applications to make enhancements to our Bank of Scotland Ayr branch.

“It’s a bit early in the process to be able to confirm what the exact improvements will be, as we are awaiting various approvals required.”

The bank has lodged plans to create a new strongroom that will contain four cash machines.

Three cash machines to the right of the front door will be pulled out.

Two will be placed on the other side of the entrance, along with two which are only accessible from the inside.

The creation of this new secure area will mean another disabled access ramp has to be put in.

New furniture and finishes will be incorporated throughout the banking hall.

The application is being decided by South Ayrshire Council.
