Bank holiday weather: Met Office latest forecast and whether we can expect soaring temperatures or a washout

Bank holiday weather in the UK is notoriously dismal. Whether or not that is a trick of our memories or based on fact, we all hope for the best, especially when it comes to the August Bank Holiday, which for many signals the end of the summer break.

So, with the Summer bank holiday of August 30, almost upon us, what does the weather this year have in store?

Met Office is predicting high pressure for the weekend up until Sunday, so there may be variable amounts of cloud, sunny spells and, of course, a few light showers thrown in for good measure.

The weather experts say that it looks increasingly likely that these settled conditions will continue through much of this weekend and winds are likely to be light to moderate for most.

When it comes to temperatures, it looks likely that both Saturday and Sunday will reach 20 degrees.

So, that's the weekend. What about the long-awaited bank holiday Monday?

According to the Met Office, we could be heading towards more unsettled conditions, which may bring changeable weather with periods of showers and longer spells of rain, interspersed with drier spells at times.

However, the good news is that while dodging those showers, we could be enjoying above-average temperatures for the time of the year.

Whatever the weather though, this is the last bank holiday before Christmas so it's worth getting out to enjoy if you can. The next bank holiday is Monday, December 27, as a substitute for Christmas Day which falls on a Saturday, and Tuesday, December 28, a substitute for Boxing Day which falls on a Sunday.
