Bank Holiday weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts 'unsettled' weekend with change on way in Ireland

Met Eireann has predicted that temperatures will remain on the cooler side this May Bank Holiday weekend as a chilly "Atlantic airflow" takes hold of Ireland.

The high pressure conditions that were over Ireland last weekend, bringing sunny and warm weather, will be replaced by cold, wet and cloudy days ahead.

Weather chiefs are forecasting bitterly cold nighttime conditions for the rest of the week, beginning Wednesday as temperatures fall as low as -1C.

The national forecaster is also predicting a mix of hail showers and thunderstorms with the May Bank Holiday not predicted to be a pleasant one.

Met Eireann said: "Thursday will see a mix of sunny spells and heavy showers.

"Heavy showers in the east during the morning will extend across the country becoming widespread as the day progresses.

"Showers will likely be heavy and slow-moving with the risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms. "

On Friday, showers will break out during the day with some heavy in the afternoon.

Friday night will be another cold night with lowest temperatures generally between -1 to +3 degree

Saturday will be another cool and showery day.

Met Eireann forecast theat cloud will increase through the day with showers developing.

Sunday will have variable cloud amounts with some bright or sunny spells and further showers.

Bank Holiday Monday will be overcast and quite breezy, possibly windy in parts, with a spell of rain spreading from the west to all areas.
