Bank Holiday travel: Londoners face disruption with no trains to run from Euston on Sunday or Monday

Londoners will face travel disruption this Bank Holiday weekend with Euston station set to close on Sunday and Monday.

Network Rail said that teams would carry out “multiple projects” to replace railway track on sections of the line between Euston and Milton Keynes.

It comes just weeks after Euston was closed for the entire Easter weekend, causing a significant headache for travellers.

Milton Keynes Central will also be closed on both days. No trains will run between the two stations.

Brian Paynter, Network Rail Capital Delivery head of track, said: “There’s a lot of great work happening over the Early May bank holiday to improve the reliability and safety of the railway for passengers and freight.

“We know some of this will be disruptive, but bank holidays remain the least busy time for carrying out complex upgrades.”

Network Rail said the work was taking place at these times as the railway will be less busy, particularly on commuter lines.

Fewer services will run on Saturday.

Travellers are encouraged to check the National Rail website for details on rail replacement buses.

There will be no Southeastern services from Victoria on Saturday or Sunday.

The bank holiday weekend will end with cloud and rain for much of the UK, the Met Office has forecast.

The weather service said that Monday would be “rather cloudy with rain continuing eastwards, sometimes heavy and thundery over England in the afternoon”.

It added that “sunny spells and showers” will follow into western regions with temperatures mostly around the seasonal norm.

Met Office operational meteorologist Dan Stroud said: “It will be a rather cloudy start to Monday with a band of rain moving eastwards during the course of the day, turning a little bit brighter and showery from the west later on Monday afternoon.

“So it’s not a complete washout for the likes of Northern Ireland, Wales and the south and west.”
