Bank holiday travel chaos: Simon Calder reveals best times to travel this weekend to avoid strikes, traffic and delays

Wanting to skip bank-holiday travel chaos? Here is when and where you should avoid to try and ensure you aren’t one of millions of travellers facing disruption this weekend.

Over the bank holiday weekend, 23-25 May, the UK will see several rail strikes take place, as well as closed lines due to engineering works.

On the roads, the RAC predicts that there could be terrible traffic jams and congestion, made only worse by the hot weather.

And for those going abroad, the EU-entry exit delays could cause problems in getting out of the UK.

The Independent’s Simon Calder breaks down the impending chaos, whilst explaining when is best to travel to avoid possible disruptions.
