Bank Holiday delays as lorry breaks down in Brynglas Tunnels

Bank Holiday traffic is backing up along the M4 after a lorry broke down in the Brynglas Tunnels in Newport.

One lane of the eastbound carriageway has had to be shut and drivers are finding themselves increasingly gridlocked, with reports of slow moving traffic stretching back for more than two miles. Lane two is currently closed.

It was expected that particular stretch of road would be busy as people head out of Wales for the bank holiday, along with with Newport County fans heading to Wembley to watch the Exiles play in the League Two play off final.

You can read more about that, here.

A Traffic Wales spokesman tweeted: "Broken down vehicle - M4 Brynglas Tunnel Eastbound.

"Lane 2 currently closed, please obey the red crosses for lane closures.

Traffic Officers attended to deal with the problem.

*Update: The broken down vehicle has now been 'safely removed' from the Brynglas Tunnel Eastbound. All lanes have now reopened.
