So Christmas is over, 2022 has begun, and we're all back at work. Which, of course, means everyone's mind starts to wander to when we might next get some time off.
As such, we thought we'd list all the bank holiday dates for 2022 in one place. Excitingly, we'll be getting an extra day this year, with the Queen's platinum jubilee celebration taking place in June. That means we'll get a total of nine bank holidays, up from the usual eight, in England.
Aside from that, we'll get the usual Easter break, May bank holidays, August bank holidays, Christmas, and New Year's Day (2023).

Bank holiday dates 2022 - England and Wales
- New Year's Day (substitute day): January 3
- Good Friday: April 15
- Easter Monday: April 18
- Early May bank holiday: Monday, May 2
- Spring bank holiday: Thursday, June 2
- Platinum jubilee bank holiday: Friday, June 3
- Summer bank holiday: Monday, August 29
- Boxing Day: Monday, December 26
- Christmas Day (substitute day): Tuesday, December 27
- New Year's Day 2023 (substitute day): Monday, January 2
In Scotland, Easter Monday is not a bank holiday, and the summer bank holiday falls on August 1, rather than August 29. Scots do, however, get January 2 and St Andrew's Day, Wednesday November 30, off as bank holidays, meaning they get an extra public holiday compared to England and Wales.
We in the UK, particularly in England and Wales, get fewer public holidays than many of our European neighbours. In a normal year, England and Wales get eight, while Scotland gets nine and Northern Ireland gets 10. Abroad, Ireland and Germany get nine, France gets 10, Italy gets 12, and Spain gets up to 14, depending on the region. Spare a thought for the Swiss, however, where some regions get as few as five.
