Banish the trappings of time

The dress code weirdly called for workout clothing and sneakers rather than party gowns to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Clarins Extra-Firming range.

Central Marketing Group -- Clarins' distributor in Thailand -- hosted the adrenaline-pumping party at Nai Lert Park, whose Glass House was transformed into a gym centred by a boxing ring and equipped with a trampoline.

Rather than exchanging punches in the arena, Katreeya English and Aniporn Chalermburanawong, Miss Universe Thailand 2015, bounced on Kangoo Jumps rebound shoes in a dance battle to the sound of upbeat music.

The activities relate to the skin's "youthful spring" and its resilience in bouncing back to shape, which drove the R&D of the fifth-generation Extra-Firming duo unveiled at the event.

New findings from research on skin firmness as well studies on skin-revitalising plant extracts constantly led to upgrading Clarins' anti-ageing product, which debuted as a night cream in 1978.

The new Extra-Firming day and night formulas complement each other in addressing slackening skin, through an updated cocktail of botanical ingredients starring extracts of organic mitracarpus from West Africa and kangaroo plant from Western Australia.

Both plants are believed to have medicinal properties. Australian aborigines, for instance, drink an energising concoction of flowers picked from the kangaroo plant, whose name comes from the unusual shape of the bracts resembling the paw of the bouncing marsupial. The night cream's efficacy has been enhanced with hydrated silica of moonstone, whose extract supports the skin's nocturnal regeneration process. Besides application of skincare products, Clarins facial fitness programme includes a muscle-toning workout, demonstrated at the Extra-Firming 40th anniversary party. The simple routine involves opening the mouth and smiling as widely as possible, using the tongue to firmly press behind the top front teeth, and shaping the mouth as an "O" then rolling the upper lip over the gum.

Regularly exercising the facial muscles helps counteract slackening skin, tighten features and helps keep the face well-defined for a youthful look.
