Bangor's Marine Court Hotel to reopen after closure fears

Bangor's Marine Court Hotel will reopen at the end of the month after there were fears over its future.

Earlier this week the popular hotel in Bangor town centre was forced to close its health club, the Oceanis Gym due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Members of staff were told that while the hotel had been allowed to reopen, it had not done so yet due to a lack of interest.

But now it can be revealed that the hotel will reopen on Wednesday, July 29.

Prior to reopening the hotel will be "freshened up" and it has also purchased new equipment that will allow it to disinfect rooms quickly after use.

Manager Joe Mowbray said: "We are happy to say that the Marine Court Hotel will be reopening at the end of the month.

"At the moment we are working getting it freshened up for our customers and we have invested in a disinfecting machine that will help us make sure that our rooms are virus free and safe for our customers to use.

"While we are reopening, we will be at a lower capacity, at roughly 40 per cent.

"Weddings that have been booked for the hotel will still be able to go ahead as planned.

"Sadly the gym has fully closed, but this is primarily due to its size. As we have to abide by the coronavirus restrictions, this would mean that we could only have two or three members in the gym at any one time, which would make it very difficult for our more than 400 members to access."

The Nelson Bar and Bistro at the hotel will also reopen on July 29.
