Bangor Football Club launches new youth set-up

Bangor Football Club has launched six new youth teams.

The Premier Intermediate League outfit's new underage system will start at Under 12s and work its way right up to the senior team.

The new underage structure will include teams at Under 12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18.

The move follows the successful launch of reserve and ladies teams last year.

Newly appointed Bangor manager Lee Feeney told the club's website: "The new Bangor F.C. youth setup provides promising skilled footballers with the opportunity to be part of a progressive football club.

"I have a philosophy of integrating talented youth players into the first team, so this is the perfect time for Bangor FC underage teams and for young people to showcase their talent.

"I believe it's all about giving youngsters opportunities. I was lucky enough to have managers who believed in me when I was young. This has played, and continues to play, a huge part in my current thinking as a manager."

Bangor chairman Nicky Davidson added: "The launch of the youth structure is good news for future generations of young local people who have aspirations of playing for their hometown club and in the Irish leagues.

"At Bangor FC we want to give opportunities to talented local youngsters, while also providing a supportive environment for them to enjoy football.

"We have already recruited a number of high-profile coaches, ensuring our youth teams will provide players with the highest level of training. But we will also offer competitive matches on the pitch and, most importantly, an opportunity for young players to showcase their talent."

Nicky concluded: "I am pleased at the progress the club has achieved since the new Board took over three seasons ago. We started with one team in the Ballymena league and quickly gained promotion back into the NI Football League.

"This is a real accomplishment for the Seasiders, as we continue with our objective of being a community-based club and reaching the highest echelons of football in Northern Ireland."

The youth teams will start training in September 2020, depending on Covid-19 restrictions, and will be based at the Bangor Fuels Arena.
