Bangor firefighter honoured by colleagues following his death

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has paid tribute to a friend and colleague following his recent death.

Firefighter Marty Beegan served for 24 years in Co Down, 11 years as an on-call responder and a further 13 years a full time officer.

And today he has been described today as a man of great dedication and hard work with a deep love for his community.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said: "The thoughts and sympathies of everyone in NIFRS are with the family, friends and colleagues of Firefighter Martin Beegan who recently passed away after an illness.

"Marty served with great pride and dedication for 24 years as an On-Call Firefighter, first in Holywood and then in Bangor.

"He joined the Wholetime Service in 2007 and displayed the very best of NIFRS’ values in his hard work and dedication to his community.

"He will be missed by everyone in NIFRS, especially his colleagues from Holywood and Bangor Fire Stations."
