Bangor crash: Air ambulance called after child injured in collision

A section of a Bangor road has been closed off after a child was injured in a crash.

Police have closed off the Gransha Road following the incident which took place shortly before 4pm this evening. It has been closed from the Gransha Road Roundabout to its junction with Cranley Road.

The emergency services, including the air ambulance are currently at the scene.

It is understood that a child has been injured as a result of the collision and has been treated by paramedics. The extent of their injuries are not yet known.

Witnesses at the scene have said that the air ambulance has landed in the grounds of Bangor Grammar School.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "The Gransha Road in Bangor has been closed from the Gransha Roundabout to its junction with Cranley Road, following a road traffic collision. Motorists are advised to seek an alternative route.

"There are no further details."

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 15.27 on Monday, 10 May 2021 following reports of an RTC at Gransha Road, Bangor.

"NIAS despatched one Emergency crew to the scene. The charity Air Ambulance with HEMs crew on board was also tasked to the incident.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children."
