Bangkok United title chase suffers major blow after shock home defeat to Pattaya

>>Bangkok United efforts to overtake leaders Buriram United in the Thai League 1 title race sustained a massive blow when they were upset 2-1 at home by mid-table Pattaya United last night.

The loss came hot on the heels of a draw against another mid-table side Ratchaburi Mitr Phol last weekend.

Sanrawat Detchmitr gave Bangkok United the upper hand three minutes into the second half, but Pattaya United were given a respite shortly after the half mark when Dimitri Zozimar found the net.

As pressure mounted on Bangkok United to grab the winner, they stumbled again, finding themselves on the receiving end one more time with Teerapol Yohyeh putting Pattaya United ahead at 70 minutes.

Former champions SCG Muang Thong United fared slightly better but the goalless draw against relegation contenders Ubon UMT United could hardly be considered a satisfying outcome.

Muang Thong had the possession for long periods during the away game and dominated their opponents in both half but when Herberty Fernandes missed a spot kick, the writing was on the wall for the Kirins.

Earlier PT Prachuap retained their grip on the fifth spot with a 1-0 victory over visiting Bangkok Glass.

A 17th-minute penalty by Jonatan Reis proved enough for Prachuap as they were able to ward off the ensuing Bangkok Glass efforts to score the leveller.

An own goal by Ratchaburi's Thailand international Phillip Roller paved the way for the Dragon's 2-1 loss at Nakhon Ratchasima.

Neirjus Valskis netted the equaliser for Ratchaburi in the 79th minute but the visitors immediately found themselves in arrears as Leandro Assumpcao scored the winner for the Swat Cats.
