The government is preparing to showcase its success in developing startups -- dubbed "economic warriors" -- over the last two years at a key industry event in Bangkok next week.
The capital now ranks as the best city for startups in Asia and No.7 in the world, Science and Technology Minister Suvit Maesincee said Friday, citing a global startup index.
"Today we declare our success in building startup 'economic warriors' to drive the Thai economy forward," he added.
Startup Thailand 2018 will be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre from May 17-20. It is the largest startup event in Southeast Asia.
The event is supported by the government, private sector and 25 countries demonstrating 400 new projects.
It will also feature 18 tech conferences, a Hackathon to determine the best software developers, and a "pitching stage" where outstanding startups will receive awards.
Since the government announced its startup development policy in 2016 this has become a popular buzzword as fledgling entrepreneurs with innovative visions hope to build game-changing businesses.
So far 1,500 startups with significant potential have been launched, with 8,500 others waiting to be registered, Mr Suvit said.
This has helped to create 15,000 new jobs thus meriting the term "economic warriors", Mr Suvit said.
The startups in Thailand have drawn 44 billion baht in investment from home and abroad over the last two years, he said.
