137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok is transforming itself into a rotating art showcase to celebrate the talent of top Thai artists and make them more accessible to hotel guests, art collectors and the general community.
Initiated under the title of "Art Rotation", this is a series of pop-up curated exhibitions that will rotate every two months. The inaugural exhibition will kick off tomorrow and run until Jan 9. It will feature 10 works by award-winning artist Suwannee Sarakana, all of which depict people or animals sleeping.
Suwannee has exhibited her works multiple times in Thailand, the US, Italy and Spain. She won the top prize at the 2nd UOB Painting of the Year in Thailand, a Special Mention Award at the 30th UOB Painting of the Year in Singapore, and accolades from the 13th Panasonic Contemporary Painting in Thailand as well as the International Watercolor Competition in Rome among others.
Her works are part of the collections at the National Gallery, Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ministry Of Culture Thailand, UOB Bank, Krungthai Bank and the National Gallery Singapore.
The opening reception will take place tomorrow at 6pm, followed by a silent auction that invites collectors to bid for the artist's portrait of the late King Rama IX. Bidding will close on Dec 5 and part of the proceeds will go to the Chaipattana Foundation.
The works can be viewed at the recently opened Baan Borneo Club and Louie's Tiffin Grill, both on the 26th floor, daily from 11am-8pm. 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok is on Sukhumvit 39.
