As part of Bangkok Design Week 2019, Iconcraft -- a venue in Iconsiam for Thai designers and entrepreneurs to showcase innovative crafts -- is holding Iconcraft x Bangkok Design Week 2019 from now until Feb 17. Under the concept of "Craft The Future", the event is a platform where designers show off their mix-and-match skills, picking up artistic elements from various artistic genres -- both old and new, local and international -- to create their art pieces.

The exhibiting areas are divided into three zones. The first is "Craft Designer to Watch", featuring the works and stories of 10 rising designers of 2019. Among the highlights is Vipoo Srivilasa, who works predominantly in ceramics, creating contemporary porcelain sculptures, vessels and figures to transmit a universal message about cross-cultural experiences.

Then there is a talk and workshop zone by the Department of International Trade Promotion where designers ML Pawinee Santisiri, Pichitra Boonyarataphan and Pirada Seneewong Na Ayudhya will share their viewpoints on how to bring Isan art to another level and how to mix it with contemporary design. ML Pawinee is founder of Ayodhya, a local home-decor brand known for its design of handicrafts made from water hyacinths.

The last zone is Craft Market, where visitors can browse through a large variety of craft products from brands like Erb, Akaliko, BsaB, Bkkbubblebar and Indigo.

Operated under the "Innovative Craft Designed For Everyday Life" concept, Iconcraft, which is located on the 4th and 5th floors of Iconsiam, showcases and sells over 5,000 pieces created by over 300 craftsmen. They are under brands like Angsa, Prem Wualia silver handicraft from Chiang Mai, Coth Studio, homlom, Yano handicraft and Bhukram, to name only a few.

Also on display permanently at Iconcraft are seven art installations telling stories of the origin and local wisdom of Thai craftsmanship. These art installations are created by leading artists and designers, including artist and author Ploy Chariyaves; collaborative artists Jiradej and Pornpilai Meemalai, who won the 2010 Asian Cultural Council Fellowship Award in New York; and renowned floral artist Sakul Intakul; among many award-winning artists.
