The Bang Sue to Rangsit Red Line is facing another delay and is now due to to open in 2021 after officials demanded some technical adjustments for the long-awaited electric railway in Bangkok.
Its operator, the State Railway of Thailand, previously set the opening for October 2020, but acting SRT governor Voravuth Mala said it now likely won't be opened until January 2021 because of a delay in the implementation of the third contract of the project, which involves electrical and mechanical systems as well as carriage acquisition.
"We need to adjust parts of the design, so they best fit the present," Mr Voravuth said.
The SRT wants to build confidence in the operations through test runs prior to its official opening.
The 26-kilometre Bang Sue to Rangsit section is part of the Red Line, with the other 15-km stretch linking Bang Sue and Taling Chan.
The Transport Ministry initially expected in 2014 to complete the 52-billion baht project by the end of 2018.
