'Bang out of order' Leeds United fans rally around popular artist after artwork cruelly vandalised

Leeds United fans from across the city have leapt to the defence of a popular street artist after his artwork was defaced by vandals.

Schoolteacher Andy McVeigh has been nicknamed the Burley Banksy after decorating around a dozen electrical boxes near Elland Road and in other parts of Leeds.

Last month, one of his creations was covered in red paint - but now a number of his most famous pieces have been crudely daubed in black paint overnight.

One of the boxes that has been destroyed is a tribute to Gary Speed, with the damage coming on what would have been the Leeds United legend's 50th birthday.

An anonymous group has since claimed responsibility by penning a letter to say they will 'ruin' every piece of artwork dedicated to Leeds United.

Within hours of Andy posting about the setback on social media, he was inundated with support from the Whites community.

A Twitter account run by supporters of Marcelo Bielsa's first club, Newell's Old Boys, has even come forward to offer their solidarity, saying: "Don't let them get you down, Andy. Keep on keeping on."
