Band cancels gig at huge Brexit party in Bedminster pub

A band has pulled out of performing at a huge Brexit party at a Bedminster pub.

The Three Lions pub, which is a landmark in BS3 for its St George’s flag frontage, has been advertising the party with a giant banner outside for months.

The cover band, which plays indie music like Oasis and The Jam, was due to perform at the event, which is taking place from 8pm tonight (January 31).

However, landlord Sean Donnelly has confirmed the band has cancelled their scheduled performance.

"If there is another band available of this sort of ilk, we would love to speak to them," he said.

"It'd be great to get someone else tonight but we've got DJs playing music too."

He previously said: “We have Union flag and St George flag hats, a mass toast at 11pm.

“We also wanted to play the number one song today after the song which was which one when we entered the shackles of the European Union.

“We thought it would be a proper banger, but it turned out it was Long Haired Lover From Liverpool, by Little Jimmy Osmond."

Another celebration will be taking place at the Berkeley Wetherspoons on Park Street tonight after being moved from the Royal Naval Volunteer pub in King Street.

Brexit Day: Everything you need to know

The majority of voters in the city of Bristol, voted to remain in the European Union, but the city was as divided as the nation.

Some wards in Bristol - notably Ashley, Clifton Down and Cotham - had some of the highest numbers of remain voters, with more than 80 per cent of people voting to stay in the EU back in 2016.

But other parts of Bristol were strongly ‘leave’. Most wards in South Bristol voted ‘leave’, and in  Hartcliffe the result was to leave by a margin of two-to-one.

The West Indies declined to comment but confirmed they had pulled out of the event.
