Ban on indoor meetings in Scotland to end in coming weeks, Nicola Sturgeon announces

Nicola Sturgeon has said she expects the ban on meeting people in their homes to be lifted on May 17.

She told MSPs lifting the restriction would initially allow groups of four people in two households to meet.

The nationwide ban on meeting in other people’s houses has been one of the toughest lockdown measures.

It has stopped people from seeing their loved ones indoors as covid-19 spreads in enclosed areas.

Announcing an easing of lockdown measures, Sturgeon said she expected restrictions on outdoor social gatherings to ease further.

She added: “And, if this has not proved possible before this date, we also expect that people will then be able to meet up inside each other’s homes again – initially in groups of probably up to 4 people from no more than 2 households.”

She said: "I know that the restriction on indoor meetings has been one of the hardest parts of lockdown for most people to bear."

Scotland will lift its coronavirus stay-at-home order on April 2 and replace it with guidance to stay local for no more than three weeks, Nicola Sturgeon has said.
