Bamboo bra creator is up for a Women's Enterprise Scotland award

An innovative business behind a fully supported wireless bra made of bamboo has been nominated in the Women's Enterprise Scotland Awards .

The Bonnie Bra Company founded by Bonnie Lawson-Browne has been nominated in the Start Up of the Year category in the awards being run with Scottish Business Insider.

Launched in 2016, the business has designed a range of simple bamboo fibre material underwater garments.

Its Bonbon bralette and amp and briefs set is being ethically manufactured at BeYonder in Glasgow.

The company said the set is made from a premium, naturally smart bamboo fibre that wicks away moisture. The design is registered and its intellectual property protected.

The Bonnie Bra company is now working on a second product that aims to replace the fabric support component with a 3D printed flexible waterproof piece.

The original concept for the bra was developed by Lawson-Browne when she was just 12 and 28 years on she is having the resulting products manufactured.

She said: “Our vision is to provide as many women across Scotland and further afield to be comfortable and confident in their bra.

Lawson-Browne said that the product was “designed by a woman for women” and that the registered design “has been lovingly and passionately honed to be exactly what women want from a bralette, it is lightweight yet supportive with stretch only where needed and no underwire clips or clasps a simple yet elegant one piece design".

She added: “We consider ourselves to be unique in Scotland, as nobody else is as making bamboo into, beautiful wearable sets of bralettes and amps.”

Lawson-Browne said her vision was to continue to add more designs and products which would all be manufactured in Scotland.
