Baltimore residents: show us what your city is really like

From the fateful video of Freddie Gray’s arrest, to powerful images of mourning and protest, to scenes of rioting and violence, Baltimore has been center stage as America grapples with the issues of race, inequality and police violence.

Baltimore, however, is a city of contrasts: urban renewal abutting unending blight, world-leading scholarship juxtaposed with underfunded public schools, civic pride mixed with deep mistrust of city officials.

Is watching the unrest in Baltimore the same as knowing what the city is really like? We want to hear the people who know Baltimore best: its residents.

Send us a picture or video and a short paragraph telling the story of your Baltimore. You can share your photos, videos and stories with us by clicking on the blue “Contribute” buttons or via the link at the end of this article. If you’re out and about, you can download the GuardianWitness app or look for our assignments in the new Guardian app. We will use the most interesting contributions in our reporting.
