Why The Tennessee Titans Will Win The AFC Wild Card
It’s possible to break off big runs on the Baltimore defense.
The Titans ran for 173 yards in the 30-24 overtime win in Baltimore the first time around, and they’re not alone. Philadelphia ran well, and so did New England, and so did Cincinnati. That doesn’t necessarily guarantee a win, but being able to pound away against this team certainly helps.
Having Derrick Henry helps.
The 2,000-yard back ran for 133 yards and a touchdown in a workmanlike effort in the first game, and Ryan Tannehill was fantastic. He threw a pick, but he also connected on 71% of his passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns and was able to run a little bit.
But the defense?
Yes, Tennessee has one of the NFL’s worst defenses, and yes, it gives up way too many yards and doesn’t take the ball away enough over the second half of the season, but it’s biggest issues are with the high-powered passing teams. That’s not Baltimore.
Lamar Jackson has been phenomenal lately, and the passing games been great, but it’s the Raven ground game that’s getting it done. Tennessee held the Ravens to 129 yards in the first game, and it’ll take that again.
However …

Why The Baltimore Ravens Will Win The AFC Wild Card
Baltimore has taken its ground attack up to a whole other level.
Lamar Jackson has returned to his dominant, MVP 2019 form as part of the NFL’s best ground game. The Ravens ran well over the first half of the season, but this is something different with 200 yards or more on the ground in four of the last five games – all wins – and with 404 against Cincinnati in Week 17.
The Tennessee defense hasn’t been awful against the run, and it wasn’t bad against Baltimore the first time around, but Green Bay was able to pound away in the snow for 234 yards a few weeks ago, and that’s exactly what Jackson and company are about to do.
Baltimore would be more than happy to make this a grinding game that comes down to who has the more effective rushing attack, even with Derrick Henry on the other side.
The right mix is there to win this time around. The defensive front is good enough to hold up against 22 – at least not get gouged too badly – and again, Jackson has been special again.
He was great over the first half of the season, but the passing game has cranking up with 17 touchdown throws over the last seven games to go along with his ability to keep the chains moving. He’s looking and playing like he’s in control, and the league’s worst defense on third downs is going to have a big, big problem getting him off the field.

What’s Going To Happen In The AFC Wild Card
It’s going to be just as much fun as the first battle back on November 22nd, a 30-24 Tennessee win in overtime.
Both teams will run well, but the one big difference will be on third downs. Baltimore is great at getting off the field, the Tennessee is the worst in the NFL at it.
However, just how good are the Ravens, really?

They managed to beat Cleveland during this five-game winning run in one of the best games of the NFL season, and the other four games? Dallas, Jacksonville, the Giants and Bengals – yippee.
Yes, Tennessee’s last three wins were against Houston, Jacksonville and Detroit – double yippee – but the two losses to Green Bay in the snow and Cleveland in a thriller came after beating Indianapolis and Baltimore, and they also came after turning the ball over multiple times in just two of the three times this year.
It’s this simple for the Titans. Run well on Baltimore, don’t turn the ball over, win. If Tennessee does the first two parts of that correctly, part three will happen.
