BALTIMORE _ Baltimore city police said a man who had threatened people on the street with knives, and refused to drop them, was shot by officers Friday morning.
Police Commissioner Kevin Davis told reporters at a news conference that the man, who was not identified by police, was in critical condition at an area hospital.
Davis said the incident occurred on a sidewalk after police received a 911 call after the man, armed with two knives, threatened people waiting at a bus stop.
He said three uniformed officers arrived at the scene and issued several verbal commands for the man to drop the knives.
He did not do so, Davis said, and so police used a Taser on him, to no effect. He said two officers then fired their weapons, striking the man several times.
Davis said at least one of the officers involved in the shooting was wearing a body camera, and he said data from the camera would be reviewed.
Witnesses tell The Baltimore Sun that the shooting occurred on a sidewalk, and one person said the man had been "dancing around with knives in his hands."
