Baltimore Orioles reportedly suspends announcer for truthful comments about team's past losses

There’s a mystery surrounding the play-by-play announcer of the Baltimore Orioles.

Kevin Brown, who has been the team’s play-by-play announcer on MASN since 2022, has been off the air since July 26, and a report by Awful Announcing states that Brown is on an indefinite suspension due to comments he made about the team on a July 23 broadcast.

The Athletic confirmed the report, but an updated report by Awful Announcing said that Brown has not been suspended and that they “look forward to hearing Kevin’s voice soon.”

The comments Brown made were ahead of the Orioles series finale in Tampa Bay against the Rays. Brown spoke about how the Orioles had not won a series at Tampa Bay’s home field, Tropicana Field, since June 2017.

“This may have been one of the toughest parks for (the Orioles) to play in,” Brown said. “But the Orioles have a chance to do something special today.”

A graphic labeled ‘Trop-ical Depression” showed the Orioles were 0-15-1 in their last 16 series against the Rays in Tampa Bay. He also noted that the Rays are not “slouches,” considering they’ve led the division for most of this season.

The Rays have also consistently been one of the top teams in the American League for the last half decade.

But the line that reportedly has caused the suspension is about the comparison of this year’s team versus those in the last few years.

“The Orioles have won more games against them this season than the last two combined,” Brown said.
