Baltic Triangle's Constellations to close after seven years due to new lockdown restrictions

A popular events space is to close after seven years with organisers blaming new lockdown restrictions.

Constellations issued a statement on Facebook saying that this weekend "will be our last". The announcement comes days after the government introduced a "Rule of Six" limiting groups and hours after it introduced a local lockdown for Merseyside.

The events space, eatery, garden and bar was known for hosting festivals and independent acts, and has become one of the Baltic Triangle's most iconic venues.

It attempted to adapt to the new social distancing rules when it reopened in July with pre-bookable "garden pods" in its beer garden.

Its Facebook statement published this evening said: "It’s with great sadness we have to announce that this weekend will be our last.

"New restrictions mean our plans to move inside are no longer viable, so for the sake of our team we need to conserve our energies for future plans.

"A huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us over the last 7 years, it’s been an incredible journey.

"We’re open across the weekend with some of our favourite DJs, tasty food and a load of stock that needs to be consumed, so come say goodbye for now..."

Constellations has faced closure before, with owners previously expecting to close in 2019 to make way for a new housing and commercial development.

At the time, owner Nick Baskerville vowed the events space would stay open "until we're knocked down".

After the latest announcement, fans of the space shared their regret that the much-loved venue was to close.

Ian Dreiundfūnfzig Digilogue wrote: "It's not great that this has happened, fantastic venue run by thoughtful forward thinking staff. Wish you well with your ongoing plans."

And Van Der Voort Martijn said: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the fantastic events. Wishing the team all the very best! It was immense!"

While Lou Cross Hardy said: "Absolutely gutted for you all."
