Balmuildy Primary School remains closed with investigation ongoing following suspected gas leak

East Dunbartonshire Council have confirmed that investigations are continuing after a school in Bishopbriggs was evacuated due to a suspected gas leak.

Police and emergency services raced to Balmuildy Primary School yesterday (Thursday February 21) at around 11.40am after the alarm was raised.

Pupils were taken to Bishopbriggs Leisuredrome due to the inclement weather to keep them safe and warm while emergency services attended to deal with the incident.

With the school remaining closed today as investigations continued.

Now East Dunbartonshire Council have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, which may mean that the school will remain closed into next week.

A statement from Ann Davie, Depute Chief Executive for Education, People & Business at East Dunbartonshire Council reads: "We understand and acknowledge the level of concern in relation to Balmuildy Primary School.

"Our investigation is continuing and is being undertaken as quickly but as thoroughly as required to fully understand the situation.

"The health and safety of children and staff is our absolute priority and this is why the Council is taking every precaution until the situation is fully understood and next steps can be determined".
