Fashion designer Olivier Rousteing has commended the Duchess of Sussex for bringing "more diversity" to the royal family.

In an interview published in The Sunday Times, the Balmain creative director spoke of his admiration for the duchess' sense of style and the impact she's had since becoming royalty in May 2018, following her wedding to the Duke of Sussex.

Rousteing explained that he's been "obsessed" with royalty ever since he was a child growing up in Bordeaux, France, and had a particular fascination with the Queen and the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

When asked for his views on Meghan as a new member of the royal family, Rousteing provided a succinct answer: "What can I say? I love her."

"It is an incredible step – more diversity, which is something I always fight for in my own little world. She is beautiful," the 33-year-old added.

Rousteing – whose celebrity clientele includes Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Lupita Nyong'o – stated that he would love to have the opportunity to dress the royal.

"She has a confidence, a sexiness, but still respecting the protocol," the designer said.

Rousteing added that he can picture himself dressing Meghan in a "beautiful long, double-breasted jacket with flared pants".

On Saturday 6 July, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, son of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, was christened at the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Meghan wore a white Dior gown for the occasion, designed with a round neck and three-quarter-length sleeves.

The duchess completed her look with a matching white fascinator and Cartier earrings.

During his interview with The Sunday Times, Rousteing admitted that he wasn't sure he would dress the US first lady, Melania Trump.

"If she want to ask me... I don't know," the designer said

"She is an incredibly beautiful woman. Maybe if I meet her and I can have a talk to her..."
