Balmaghie Community Council hold scarecrow competition to lift lockdown spirits

There have been some scary sights across the Stewartry in the past few days.

Balmaghie Community Council ran a scarecrow competition and, unsurprisingly, most of the entries had a coronavirus link.

Local councillor Dougie Campbell judged all the entries, with a clown scarecrow thanking key workers coming out on top and Peter the Pandemic Pixie taking second.

Both entries were from Bridge of Dee.

Councillor Campbell said: “Some terrific scarecrows to choose from and I’m wondering if previous scarecrow competitions have been so focused on one single issue.

“The two standouts for me were the multi-coloured and attention -grabbing scarecrow and the Pandemic Pixie, which I thought was a very clever idea and really quite scary.

“Although it was difficult to decide between the two, the winner has to be the key worker scarecrow.”

He thanked everyone who entered and Ian, Neil and Shirley for taking photos of the entries.
