Ballysallagh Road bridge hit again as inspections are ongoing

A vehicle has hit a low bridge in Bangor this evening.

Shortly after 7pm on Friday 6 December a vehicle struck the Co Down bridge just off the A2, sparking an investgation.

A spokesperson for the Department for Infrastructure told Belfast Live that traffic is moving.

He said: "We received reports at around 7pm that the Ballysallagh Road bridge had been struck.

"Traffic is moving well at this stage and inspections will take place as a precautionary measure."

Last year, the bridge was closed for several weeks to repair damage caused by heavy good vehicles striking it.

It reopened on November 22 much to the delight of locals who had expressed frustration due to diversions in the area and traffic buildup.

It is understood additional warning signs were erected on both sides of the bridge to further highlight the presence of a low bridge.
