Ballyragget appoint former Kilkenny camogie manager Ann Downey as manager

Kilkenny legend Ann Downey has been appointed the new manager of the Ballyragget intermediate hurlers, her first senior job in the men's game.

Downey won 12 All-Ireland camogie medals with Kilkenny as a player, and managed the Cats to O'Duffy Cup success in 2016.

But she stepped down in 2019 after losing the last three deciders, last year to Galway and Cork in 2017 and 2018.

Downey previously managed the men's minor and under-21's team at the Kilkenny club and now takes charge after their adult team was relegated to intermediate level.

"I'm looking forward to it, because there are some great young lads that can hurl here," she told the Irish Independent.

"You would hope to go back up, to be quite honest, that would be the aim."
