Ballymun bike crash victim Josh Boyd's funeral arrangements announced

The funeral arrangements have been announced for Josh Boyd, the Dubliner who was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash on New Year's day in Ballymun last week.

Josh, whose partner is expecting a baby boy within weeks, was killed after the motorbike he was riding struck a lamppost on Sillogue Road at around 3.30pm.

Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, however Josh was pronounced dead a short time later.

The 19-year-old's funeral arrangements were posted online today.

His funeral mass will take place on Friday 14 January at 10am in The Church of the Holy Spirit, Sillogue, followed by burial in Glasnevin Cemetery (St Paul's Section).

The RIP.ie notice reads: "Josh Boyd, beloved brother of the late Lee. Josh Paul will be sadly missed by his loving mother Rosaleen, father Joseph, brothers and sisters Kelly, Joseph, Keira, Leon, Darryl, and Shauna, girlfriend Chloe, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, extended family, neighbours, and a large circle of friends.

"We would ask that you please adhere to guidelines regarding social distancing and the wearing of face coverings. The family would like to thank you for your support and understanding at this most difficult time."

It comes after friends of the tragic teenager held an emotional vigil on Saturday where they released balloons to honour his memory.

Several pals posted short videos of the balloon release with one writing on social media: “A tribute for you Josh. Great turn out from everyone who knew and loved you. You’ll be so missed by everyone. Look over your family for the next week. It’s gonna be a tough one.”

While another wrote: “RIP Josh Boyd. Forever young.”

Local Fianna Fail Councillor Keith Connolly said that the whole Ballymun community is "very upset" following Josh’s tragic death, saying: "The community is very upset, the young man’s girlfriend was expecting a baby in a few weeks. He had his whole life ahead of him."
