Ballymena United impress en route to emphatic win over Cliftonville

Ballymena United made it two wins on the bounce with a resounding 4-0 victory over Cliftonville on Tuesday night.

David Jeffrey's Sky Blues ended a four-game losing run with Saturday's 2-0 success over Warrenpoint Town.

And they continued their revival with another impressive display in North Belfast.

Summer signing Shay McCartan stole the show at Solitude, scoring twice with Paul McElroy and captain Leroy Miller also on target.

McCartan broke the deadlock with a superb strike in the ninth minute, dispatching a 25-yard shot past Richard Brush.

The disjointed Reds were 2-0 down after the break when McElroy converted from the penalty spot after bring brought down by Ryan O'Reilly inside the box.

It was soon 3-0 when McCartan dispatched a superb dipping free-kick into the net to put Ballymena United in command.

And the emphatic win was completed in the 82nd minute when Millar collected Ross Redman's pass to coolly slot past Brush.

The win sees Ballymena jump into fifth spot in the table, level on points with Cliftonville in fourth.
