Ballyhale Shamrocks lead the way in AIB Club Hurling Team of the Year

Shamrocks’ latest All-Ireland success has seen them honoured with six places on the AIB GAA Club Player Awards team for hurling.

They’re followed by Munster champions Ballygunner, the club who gave them most trouble once they emerged from Kilkenny, with five awards.

There are two players from Ulster champions Ruairi Og of Cushendall while St Thomas’s, who suffered a heavy All-Ireland final defeat to Ballyhale, have just one player represented with Fintan Burke chosen at wing-back.

Rory O'Connor believes inter-county players will be paid in the future

The team is completed by former Offaly forward Brian Carroll, who is the only player from outside of the four All-Ireland semi-finalists to be chosen. He performed well for Coolderry in both his provincial outings against Mount Leinster Rangers and particularly Ballyboden St Enda’s, a game in which he scored 2-16.

Additionally, Colin Fennelly (Ballyhale Shamrocks), Adrian Mullen (Ballyhale Shamrocks), and Pauric Mahony (Ballygunner) have been shortlisted for the Club Player of the Year award, the winner of which will be revealed at a Croke Park banquet on Saturday night.
