Ballyfermot shooting victim who was gunned down in gangland hit named locally as Thomas McCarthy, 55

The gangland shooting victim blasted dead in his own home in Ballyfermot this morning has been named locally as Thomas McCarthy.

The 55-year-old, who was known to gardai, is understood to have only recently returned from time living in England.

McCarthy was shot at close range by a lone gunman who called to the house on Croftwood Park in Cherry Orchard around 11am.

The tragic Ballyfermot man was shot several times at close range and died in the hallway of his home.

Sources have said that the hit was a planned, targeted and professional attack that bore all the hallmarks of a gang-related hit.

A high-powered weapon was used in the horror shooting and Mr McCarthy was pronounced dead at the scene after a prolonged battle to save his life by emergency services.
