Ballyclare Comrades taking inspiration from Queen's ahead of Irish Cup clash

Ballyclare Comrades boss Paul Harbinson admits his side are taking inspiration from Queen’s stunning victory over Linfield as they prepare to face Larne in the Irish Cup.

The Comrades saw off the students 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Dixon Park as they moved above Peter Thompson’s side into seventh in the standings.

Queen’s deservedly defeated Premiership champions Linfield 2-1 in the last round and face Glentoran this Saturday, with Ballyclare hosting Larne in an East Antrim derby.

“Queen’s are a great inspiration for us – they work very hard for each other and build on it week after week and that’s what we are looking at doing here,” explained Harbinson, as he went on to speak of his side’s strong recent form.

“We will work to our strengths against Larne and we won’t hide – and whilst the league is our bread and butter everyone wants a run in the Irish Cup, don’t they?

“We’ve brought Tom Mathieson in on a loan deal from Crusaders to give him game time, and he has done phenomenally well, and Joe Tully got another goal [on Saturday] – he’s a natural scorer, so we are very happy with how things are going at the moment.

“We completely rebuilt the squad this year – we have a young group of players and whilst our aim is a top six finish, we know we can go higher.”
