Ballycastle emergency response as man taken to hospital after boating incident

A man has been taken to hospital after a boating incident in Co Antrim.

Emergency services were called to Ballycastle Harbour shortly before midday on Sunday, June 13, following reports of a boating incident.

It is understood the boat the man was in was hit by a big wave sending him into the air and he injured his back on landing.

The Northern Ireland Air Ambulance also attended the scene but did not take the man to hospital. He was taken to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital by road ambulance this afternoon.

A spokesman for the NI Ambulance Service said they received a 999 call just before 11.50am on Sunday to reports of a boating incident in Ballycastle Harbour.

"We dispatched one emergency crew and the charity air ambulance was also tasked to the incident," he said.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one male patient was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital."

Meanwhile, police officers were in attendance for several hours after a three-vehicle crash on the Dundrum Road.

The incident happened close to the entrance to Murlough Beach on Sunday.

Motorists in the surrounding areas were advised to avoid the Dundrum Road as traffic was "very heavy" following the collision.

The road has since reopened.
