Ballycastle crash involving lorry leaves man in critical condition

A man in his 20s is in critical condition in hospital following a two vehicle collision in Co Antrim.

The incident involving a lorry and a black Volkswagen Golf happened on the Straid Road, Ballycastle on Saturday morning, June 26.

Emergency Services were called to the scene at 8.20am following a report of the collision.

The road was closed for several hours whilst police carried out their investigations but has since reopened to traffic.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "The Straid Road, Ballycastle, has re-opened to traffic following a road traffic collision yesterday (Saturday 26th June) morning.

"The two vehicle collision, which involved a black Volkswagen Golf and a lorry, was reported at approximately 8.20am.

"A man in his 20s was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition at this time.

"Enquiries are ongoing, and police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any dash-cam footage, to contact them via 101, quoting reference number 488 of 26/06/21."

Meanwhile, a woman has been rescued from a cliff edge in Co Derry.

A major rescue operation involving Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard, PSNI, NIAS, NW Mountain Rescue Team and Community Rescue Service swung into action on Saturday night to bring the casualty to safety from Binevenagh Mountain.
