Ballyboden's Basquel brothers deserve county recall as Garrycastle manager Gary Dolan compares Colm to Diarmuid Connolly

Garrycastle manager Gary Dolan believes Colm Basquel is better than Diarmuid Connolly "in some respects" as Ballyboden St Enda's boss Anthony Rainbow advocated for a Dublin recall for the Basquel boys.

Dolan's side match up against the Dublin champions in the Leinster club semi-finals next Sunday.

And he think it's "amazing" Basquel hasn't lined out in the sky blue of the All-Ireland champions more often.

"We played Ballyboden back in 2009 which was a great game too. We pipped them on the day," Dolan told RTE.

"There are a very experienced outfit. Three or four of the lads that are going to be playing Sunday week were playing that day.

"They've a solid back six, a lot of them were in the county setup at different stages. And then you look up front with the Basquels.

"Colly in my eyes is probably better than Diarmuid Connolly in some respects and it's amazing not to see him in the county panel."

And while Rainbow would love for Colm and his brother Ryan to be back in the Dublin 26 on a regular basis, he sees the advantages of having players of their quality away form the inter-county setup.

"When you're trying to quantify the two Basquels, it's not even the stuff on the field that I would talk about," Rainbow told the Irish Independent.

"It's their leadership off it, the stuff that ye don't see. Their prep, their nutrition, their rehab, everything they do, they do to a professional level."

"It has been a huge bonus for us not to have the two of them involved with Dublin."
