Ballon d’Or 2025 LIVE: Latest updates and results as Ousmane Dembele pips Lamine Yamal to award

Ballon d’Or 2025 LIVE!

Football’s most prestigious individual honour was awarded to Ousmane Dembele on Monday night as the Frenchman was crowned the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner in Paris. All eyes fell upon the iconic Theatre du Chatelet for one of the biggest and glitziest nights on the game’s annual calendar, where Dembele scooped the top prize after his starring role in Paris Saint-Germain’s historic quadruple success last season that included finally ending their long wait for Champions League glory.

Many other PSG stars were on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or this year, plus a range of other awards, though the majority were not in attendance after their Ligue 1 clash with rivals Marseille was postponed over the weekend due to severe weather conditions and rescheduled for the night of the ceremony. Dembele, however, was Luis Enrique’s squad for the match due to injury.

Lamine Yamal was considered as the biggest threat to Dembele’s chances after his stunning exploits with Barcelona and Spain, but he had to settle for second place ahead of Vitinha in third. Mohamed Salah was the highest placed Premier League player in fourth as Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer finished eighth. Follow the 2025 Ballon d’Or back and check out the results below!

Yamal's fafther blasts Dembele triumph

11:35 , Oli Gent

Lamine Yamal’s father has spoken out to openly criticise the decision to name Ousmane Dembele as the recipient of this year’s Ballon d’Or.

The Barcelona winger, who won the Kopa Trophy for the second year running in Paris last night, was pipped to the main award by the French forward.

Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, called the decision “not theft but rather moral damage to a human being”.

Hampton's Beard tribute

11:15 , Oli Gent

Hannah Hampton used her Yashin Trophy acceptance speech to pay tribute to the former Liverpool manager Matt Beard, who tragically died over the weekend aged 47.

“The women's game sadly on Saturday lost a real trailblazer, Matt Beard,” Hampton said.

“Matt was someone who cared an awful lot for the women's game when no one else did. He lit up the room when everyone was in it.

“This is just a message to show that not everyone should have to go through these dark moments alone.

“Sometimes the brightest smiles in the room hide the heaviest pain. He'll be greatly missed.”

ICYMI: Hampton scoops Yashin Trophy

11:00 , Oli Gent

England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton claimed the Yashin Trophy last night as she was honoured as the best female shot-stopper in the world.

The Chelsea ‘keeper said that she “stand[s] on the shoulders of so many great goalkeepers” as she accepted the award.

“Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you to France Football for this award. I don't think it's an achievement for me but for women's goalkeeping, that the award is finally now taking part.

“I stand on the shoulders of so many great goalkeepers of the past. Sitting alongside my fellow nominees, I'm proud to be a part of such an incredible group and inspiring future generations of goalkeepers coming through and training so hard.

“I'd like to thank my family, my brother who is here tonight, for the sacrifices that you made when I was growing up, driving me around everywhere so that I could fulfil my dream and be here tonight.

“To all the coaches, there's so many, from Frosty at Stoke, to all the coaches at Birmingham, all those at Villa, at Chelsea with Emma and Strew bringing me in, and now with Seb, Dan and Sonia having to put up with me on a daily basis. To Sarina and Dan for having the faith in me over the summer, with the success we've had. To the fans, your support does not go unnoticed and it truly means a lot.

“Finally, to Grandpa. I love and miss you everyday. I hope I made you proud. We did it.”

No Real attendees

09:53 , Oli Gent

There was not a Real Madrid delegation in Paris last night, similar to that of their boycott in 2024.

The La Liga outfit shunned last year’s event in protest at Vinicius Junior being pipped to the prize by Man City midfielder Rodri, and this year, there was not a single player or member of staff that attended the ceremony in Paris last night.

The key difference here, however, is that Madrid officials and players were allowed to attend if they wished, but reports in The Athletic and from Fabrice Hawkins detailed that no-one was present.

For reference, the highest-ranked Madrid player for the top prize was Ky;ian Mbappe, who came in seventh, with Vinicius 16th, while Jude Bellingham was 23rd.

Neymar makes jibe at Ballon d'Or rankings

08:30 , Oli Gent

Neymar took to social media to voice his displeasure at Raphinha’s position in the Ballon d’Or top 10 rankings.

The former Leeds winger came in fifth on Monday night, and had his Barcelona team-mate Lamine Yamal ahead of him in second.

Ousmane Dembele, formerly of Barca himself, scooped the award, with Vitinha and Mohamed Salah completing the top five.

In the Instagram comments, Neymar said of his compatriot: “Raphinha in fifth is too much of a joke”, accompanied with a laughing emoji.

Sliding doors moment?

08:16 , Oli Gent

Dembele, a natural winger, was shifted into a false nine role by PSG boss Luis Enrique last term.

He flourished, playing 26 games in that position, scoring 21 goals in all competitions.

That includes 10 goals in 10 Ligue 1 games, and 7 in 10 Champions League appearances.
