Balloch's iconic Maid of the Loch handed much-needed funding boost

The Maid of the Loch has been thrown a lifeline after receiving a charity donation to help deal with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As with all tourist attractions, the Maid was forced to close her doors when the first lockdown was introduced in March - missing out on the busy spring and summer tourist season.

And that provided financial challenges for the Loch Lomond Steamship Company who rely on summer visitors to help pay the Maid’s running costs over winter.

However the Wolfson Foundation have now stepped in to help out, providing a £35,000 grant - on top of money they already donated to her £1.2million refit in 2019.

The donation was welcomed by John Beveridge, chair of the Steamship Company who said: “This is wonderful news, and we are most grateful the Wolfson Foundation for their support at this time. This award has enabled us to re-employ one member of staff and helps us through this difficult winter period”.
