Balloch reports largest drop in Covid-19 cases in latest neighbourhood figures

Covid rates across West Dunbartonshire are showing signs of falling, however the area remains one of the worst hit in Scotland.

According to the latest figures published this afternoon, only Falkirk and West Lothian have higher infection levels than West Dunbartonshire - with the seven day average for cases sitting at 184.4, well above the Scottish average of 103.9.

This figure has dropped from 217 per 1000,000 over the past week however, with the picture in the local area also looking more positive.

Clydebank East, Singer and Dalmuir have the highest neighbourhood rates in the authority, with Kilpatrick (247.3 per 100,000) in third. Its figure represents a sizeable increase from the 144.3 recorded last week.

However drops have been recorded in Leven (280.1 to 160 per 100,000), Bonhill (270.2 to 168.9), Bowling (235.5 to 117.7) and Alexandria (172 to 147.4). Balloch also reported a sizable decrease in infection levels; from 270.2 per 100,000 to 84.9.

Dumbarton East however recorded five new cases over the past week, spiking its level from ‘suppressed’ to 102.5 per 100,000.

In Dumbarton itself meanwhile just four new positive cases have been identified - giving it an average of 56.7 per 100,000.

The picture was less positive for Lomond however, as it posted notable increase from 67.9 to 135.7.

Across the area, only Dumbarton, Dumbarton East, Balloch and Clydebank North reported figures below the Scottish average.

West Dunbartonshire’s test positivity rate also remains high (at 6.9 percent), above the Scottish average of 5.1 percent - with the World Health Organisation stating that only once test positivity rates are under five percent can the pandemic be considered under control.
